The best way to get to know Nörd Commons—and for us to get to know you—is by becoming an Explorer. Explorers are people who are genuinely curious about cohousing and want the time and space to thoughtfully explore whether Nörd Commons feels like the right fit.

Becoming an Explorer is a simple first step. There is a $150 per-household, non-refundable Explorer fee, which helps support the work of building the community while you take this next step in learning more.

As an Explorer, you'll gain more than updates on a future cohousing community—you'll begin experiencing the "secret sauce" that makes cohousing so meaningful.

Through monthly Explorer gatherings, you'll get an inside look at the development of Nörd Commons, including potential sites, project milestones, community design, and what comes next. You'll learn how cohousing communities make decisions together, balance different perspectives, and create a shared vision for the future.

Just as importantly, you'll have the opportunity to build relationships with fellow Explorers. Along the way, you'll learn about the hopes, priorities, and dreams that are drawing others to Nörd Commons. You'll discover what it means to be a good neighbor in an intentional community and experience the collaborative spirit that helps cohousing communities thrive.

The Explorer program is designed to help you determine whether Nörd Commons is the right fit for your future while giving you a chance to participate in the early stages of community-building. We believe that community doesn't begin when people move in—it begins when people start learning, growing, and making decisions together.

Joining early offers several important advantages, including:

  • Becoming part of a forming cohousing community is a big step, and there’s no rush. As an Explorer, you’re encouraged to take the time you need to understand the process, ask thoughtful questions, and reflect on whether Nörd Commons feels like the right fit for you. We’re here to support your learning journey every step of the way.

  • Explorers are welcome to sit in on selected meetings and gatherings so you can see firsthand how our collaborative process works. This is a great opportunity to witness the group’s culture, communication style, and decision making approach in real time.

  • Connection is at the heart of cohousing. Through casual Zoom gatherings and occasional social opportunities, you’ll have the chance to meet fellow Explorers and the professionals supporting the project. These moments help you build relationships and get a feel for the people shaping the community.

  • We believe in being open and realistic about what it takes to create a thriving cohousing neighborhood. As an Explorer, you’ll gain a clear understanding of cohousing values, the level of participation involved, and the real-world steps required to bring a new community to life.
